Been away for 2 weeks with boiler set to Off 0
Came back and turned on to hot water only fan set off then got noisy.
When hot tap turned on even more noisy.
Only recent change has been to replace a cooorded clip in extended flue about 3 days before we went away.
Do I need a new fan?

I would be interested in who and how the flue clip was changed! Should have been a CORGI !

Although fan bearings can and do fail thats usually progressive with a noise increase over a few weeks.

The immediate thought would be that the fan or flue has been disturbed and somehow the noise has been brought on by the work on the flue.

It was a qualified engineer who replaced the corroded clip.
Could something have fallen back into the fan?
We would have noticed the noise before we went away.
The noise is knocking which increases with fan speed - dont think its bearings myself either.

I would think a service is what is needed. This will make this boiler quiet as a mouse. Warning- a 15 minute hoover and spit and polish is not a service.
