Hi,

We got repeatedly woken up last night by a very loud vibrating toilet cistern. We had a look in the cistern and found that the water was trickling in very slowly, so we pressed the lever to encourage it to fill up quicker. Satisfied with ourselves we went back to bed....but it started again, and again, and again... :(

Basically we think there wasn't enough water to keep the 'buoy/lever' up so eventually we tied it up and that stopped the problem.

We constantly have water trickling into the ceramic bowl and I noticed that there is a lot of limescale around the plastic lever.

Could it be a problem with limescale or something more major?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Sounds as if the ballvalve washer has gone. Can replace but much easier changing the whole valve really. If you have a service valve on the supply make sure that is free to move when needed, leave it about 2/4 to 3/4 open. These can make noise too when flushing.

if youve got water trickling into the toilet bowl then the cistern wont reach the required fill level for the ball valve to shut the water supply off.

It sounds like a fault with the siphon, easy to replace or it could be as suggested above
