I've come round to fitting out cooker hood. On fitting knew I'd have to cut into the hand turned cove and make new to try get the decorative flue part to look as though it goes up to the ceiling but at the position the splash back has been placed it's a fraction too high to slide the panel in.

I've cut two temp slots so I could fit it as you can see in the pictures. Anyone think of a more permanent solution to being able to fit this portion but allow it to be removable in case fuse goes etc?

Don't really fancy cutting top of this part (as can only accommodate 1 part of the cover) as it'll leave it short of the ceiling and likely look pants where metal has been cut. Thought about cutting hole to match in the ceiling so can slide it up into void if needs to be removed in future but worried about negating the fire resistance of the plasterboard with a hole?

On balance I would say cut a 2mm channel in the ceiling about 5-10mm deep(or whatever is needed) to let it slide up and drop back down into place.

Its rare to have to remove these. The next time it needs to come off will prob be when you or someone else refits that kitchen in 15 years.

if you can lift the floor above, you could reinstate the fire barrier in the cavity formed by the coving
