Oil Boiler Soot

My oil boiler is producing black smoke and soot. Didn't really notice it but as its on more it's pretty clear and getting everywhere. The soot has been fine but last night it produced relatively bigger chunks for a period, now they're back to small. I have a service booked for Tuesday, does it sound more urgent?
