Only tripping from one socket

I have a problem with only one wall socket downstairs. Sometime when I plug in an iphone, kettle etc it trips out. Not always though.
If I plug these into other sockets on the same run I don't get a problem.
Any ideas?

Exactly what is tripping? Does it actually trip immediately you plug something in even if (in the case of the kettle, for example) the something is not switched on?

I would check for loose a connection at the socket and /or replace the socket it my be damaged.
