open fire

I want to render the brickwork inside the fire. Could this be done with this

Or am i better off with say VITCAS Fireplace Render?
The fire will be a basket for logs/coal.

Not sure if that product would be suitable.
But defo go with a lime/cement render for that area.

Is the wickes one not a lime / cement mortar? if not can you buy it bagged ( ready mixed)?
Or could. the area be tiled instead?
