Hello all,
I've just purchased a property recently. I've tried to open the fireplace as we were told that it was working. After removing the plaster, it was what I came across. (see the first picture)

There is concrete on the right on side of the chimney breast. (See the second pictures)

I understand that it has been board up. what kind of fireplace was there before? I don't understand why the opening is not in the middle of the chimney breast.
I hope somebody can give me some explanations.
Thanks
Seb

Some chimney breasts have offset fire openings because the flues are side by side to next doors. If you're not sure I suggest you ask next door if you can see theirs so you dont go knocking into their flue. You can usually tell if its a side by side flue from the stack arrangement on the property.

Thank you very much. I will check with my downstair neighbours.
