Hi

I'm planning an extension. The living room will have a fireplace with balanced flue inset gas fire.

Should I make the opening the standard 410x560 and is 250 enough depth? How does it need finishing eg bare block at the back and plasterboard or cement board to line the opening?

Also how would you bring up the level of the opening from the screed to match the hearth height? Can I use a ply base or does it need to be concrete/screed?

Sorry if stupid questions but I've no idea how hot it gets around an inset gas. Assuming they are relatively well insulated like an oven (which of course sits on a chipboard cabinet).

Thanks

Gazgo seems to have some interesting products. They do a "zero clearance" that they say can go into a plasterboard rough opening. Any experience with it?

whatever fire you have fitted you will need to look at the manufacturers instructions as they are usually various differences in openings they are not like a standard fire . AND some will ask for opening to be lined and sealed some wont
No you cant use a ply base it will need to be cement base standard mortar mix is ok
