Opentherm Weather Comp and Intergas HRE 24 OV

Your combination of trades is the best possible IMO - will encourage my son to do something like that if he shows interest.

Hmm a new 28mm NO valve would be about £115. Might be easier to fit something like this to reverse the NO/NC signal. Don't think its a safety critical issue as no valves from boiler to header tank and in any case the boiler would just shut down if there was no flow. Could be wrong though....

As a non plumber/heating engineer I might have missed the point, but we've just gone from a quite old condensing boiler with a set flow temp/nest thermostat to an ASHP with weather compensation. It has been running all of October and cost us almost exactly the same as last October (taking into account price fluctuatiions over that period so it was in fact a little cheaper but prices have gone down since then). Looking at the average temp it has been 1 degree colder this Oct, versus last year.

The main benefit we have felt is comfort, without a doubt. Same running costs, for no setback to 15/16 at night or when we are out; no temp drop in the house before the heating kicks in. I came back the other day and for whatever reason the flow temp had shot up to 50- no idea why as it had been coasting on 35-40 all month. Straight away it reminded me of the old boiler without WC. Almost uncomfortably hot with piping hot rads, and then it would all turn off and then it would get just a bit too cold before the heating kicked back in again. A seemingly one off event though and it is back to ticking along at 35.
