Hi all, already have external switched socket in garden off armoured cable, my question is what cable should I use to the light and should the cable be in conduit, thanks for your time!

It depends on lots of things.

First question or two:

How far from the socket will the light be?
What route will the cable take?

Hi thanks for your reply, the light will be no more than 3mtrs away, the cable will be fixed to brickwork and timber of the pergola.

Do not use PVC cable as the frost and sun will break it down.
Use rubber sheathed cable (aka "pond cable") will be fine, providing its not going to be at ground level etc. You can plug it in, use a 3amp fuse in the plug.
Something like this (some places will provide bits cut to length.)

Final thought. I assume your socket is the type that remains water-resistant when a plug is in it? Otherwise you may need to provide one that is, or use the appropriate IP-rated FCU.
