Hello

If I overboard my ceiling (currently seems to be made of thick cardboard, no plaster), will I be best off using screws? If so, what are they called and what size? I have to use quite light and small bits of plasterboard as I am a girl and lack the neccessary arm strength.

Hi,

Yes, definately best using screws instead of nails.

You're looking out for drywall screws. Usually black.

You could do with at least 50mm screws I reckon so that you go through the new board, through the existing board and penetrate a good bit into the joists above.

Get yourself a support prop or two. Only £10 - £15 each (one's usually enough anyway) so you can get your board into place and prop it up making screwing easier.

Make sure you stagger the joints to prevent continuous crack when skimmed and also tape all joints properly with scrim tape.

Good luck.

Thanks Fred,

Sound advice.

Strangely I had never thought of support props, its mostly been brooms.
