Paint over preservative

Not sure which is the best forum for this.

I've had some softwood windows made by a local joiner. Is there a recommended preservative that I can blather them with (particularly the sills), that I can subsequently paint over in the normal way?

I use Dulux Weathershield Exterior Preservative Primer on bare woodwork then the full weathershield finish, Undercoat/Gloss

Dont tip any leftover primer back into the tin !!!!
