hi all i painted a fascia board about three weeks ago, but i want to give it another coat of gloss. Can i re coat straight on after sanding or do i need to undercoat again? Thank in advance.
Three weeks might be pushing it. I often apply two coats of gloss but normally do it within a week or two window.
That said, if you use 240-360 grit silicone carbide paper to key it first- I think you will be fine. Oil based gloss takes a couple of months to cure fully.
If you were to re-gloss a year or two later, there is a risk of the new gloss peeling off. I have seen it all come off with a gentle nudge from a blunt chisel.
If the first coat of gloss has cured fully, you run the risk of the new coat sliding down over the old gloss. I don't think you are going to have to worry about that given the time differential.
