I have a high gable at the front of my house (1950's mock Tudor), and need to repaint the timber boards accross the gable and down the front of the house. It was probably creosoted originally but has been painted about 10 years ago - dark ebony (almost black). It's pretty matt - no surface paint flake showing. Should I use water based Sadolin Non Drip or Quick dry wood stain ? or solvent based stain ?
Any suggestions ?

Thanks
Dal
