painting log cabin

Hi
Could someone tell me what is the best paint to use on the exterior of a log cabin, 44mm thick and soft wood. I think a micro porous paint would be good but wanted to check if there are any fors or againsts. Also what type of primer/ preserver should be used.

No, I was looking at an acrylic water based paint.
