Hi all, I'm planning on oiling my external flashing for a chimney stack which has oxidised and gone light grey... after much Googling it appears that oiling is better than painting it with black paint! The problem is that there are several large white paint splashes on it - I assume external timber paint as the house is timber framed. Is there an easy way to firstly remove the paint splashes using a solvent if possible, rather than just scraping them off? I am worried that will damage the flashing. The house is Grade II listed so I need to be careful.
I am assuming oiling the flashing with white paint on it will look pretty awful so need to take it off somehow first.
