Hi stripped. door frames. To reveal dark brown stuff like stain varnish removed that and sanded down smooth undercoat and glossed it fine when I returned the next day orange had come through really badly I glossed it again and within 20 minutes it was showing through again as bad I am using water based paint any advice would be grateful cheers

If your house is old the brown stuff you refer to is probably Scumble glaze, this was used to figure grain the woodwork to look like real wood. All the rage in the 30's and 40's. It sticks like treacle to your scraper and shavehook when trying to get it off. Ideally after sanding you need a coat of an oil based undercoat or a stain block like Zinsser Coverstain before using water based top coats.
