Ask the mods to transfer your post to the flooring or building forum?
Dig out about 100mm - 150mm.
If you dont hit damp or rotted wood then
Line the pocket with some kind of plastic membrane (a DPM) .
Allowing room for adhesive and the blocks, fill to a suitable height with almost semi-dry concrete filler,
say 1 x sand, 1 x chippings, 1 x cement.
