Patio door or not

Hi guys, I'm thinking about putting in a 6 foot patio door in my dining room which is 8 foot wide. Currently I've got a small 3 foot window in there, and I know this means running it past the building regs people and replacing the lintel and that, but am I on to a non stater in the first place because i've only got 1 foot either side supporting the lintel

No, it's not a non starter. Quite a doable project.

You need a minimum 18" on each return of the wall, so you may get away with it with correct size lintel.
