Hello all,
I am laying a patio outside a set of French doors/ windows. The house is pretty old (1856) so the doesn't appear to be a DPC. I have a number of issues that I need to sort but the main area I am looking for advice on is to do with drainage.

Issues:
Historically I have had damp at the door corners and under the floor inside the door- this appears to be mainly due to poor installation of the doors as the sill didn't / doesn't overlap the brick course at the bottom of the door

My main question is : with no DPC do I need to install drainage between the house and the patio I.e a French drain or other. If so do I need to plumb it into a proper drain or can I just pipe it into the ground - I can imagine it will only be a trickle if the patio slopes away from the house.

Also, should I go 2 courses below the patio doors course for the patio level?

Thanks in advance,
David

I'd think if there was no DPC that would definitely require some form of surface water control. Can you fall away from the wall and drain elsewhere?

I'd be tempted to put in a gravel trap or french drain or something anyway to give the wall the best chance, and 2 courses below door threshold sounds a good start.
