How to 'ish.

I do not know how this matches up to Google cloud etc.

Tried this on a largish PDF, did .docx and .doc with only minor errors - namely four extra spaces within the 'front' page headings. Formats and graphic placement was spot on.

Only just picked up on your post, Pip. Seems to work very effectively on the 2 docs I tried. On the rare occasions previously where I have wanted to edit a PDF I used a free download called Nitro Reader V5 (its several versions behind their current offering which I guess is pretty pricey). Even after a bit of practice it remains rather unwieldy.
