Hello All,

Can anyone tell me the difference between Pentium LGA and Pentium MPGA?

I'm looking at upgrading and don't know which one to choose. It's for a gaming PC by the way.

Cheers.

Hi

Lots of info on the intel site.

LGA = Land Grid Array
PGA = Pin Grid Array

Are these both compatible in your motherboard?

Thanks Doc,

From what I can gather LGA is the newer and presumably better technology and should be cheaper to manufacture and therefore to buy.
It's all about getting more power to the chip apparently.

By the way, my current mobo needs upgrading too so it's not an issue.
PCI Express SLI here I come!!!!! :D :D :D

Don't worry about the specifics of LGA or PGA, worry about the socket that the CPU fits in.

You want an LGA775 P4, and for gaming it wants to be either a HT enabled CPU or one of the new true Dual Core types. You won't go far wrong with an ASUS mainboard either.

I agree, dont be too concerned - just dont go and buy a socket 478 :)
I also agree on the board, Asus or Abit you usually cant go wrong - if you are looking at a serious system, then I'd reccomend getting some decent high performance ram - and of course a decent board as mentioned, makes all the difference.
As an example, one of my pc's runs a 2600 athlon XP, abit NF7 board, 1 gig of XMS ram and still outperforms many 3 gig + "off the shelf" systems.

Cheers Guys,

The 7800GTX is a bit pricey for me. Maybe a 6800 with Abit N18 (SLI 775 1066FSB DDR2 SATA Raid5 PCI-E)!!! Bring it ON! :evil:
