Permeable blocks - what are they like in the long-run?

I'm looking to put a blockwork driveway in, but as I have no room for a soakaway it would have to be permeable blocks.

Not sure if people really used them enough before 2008 to get a longterm view of them, but does anyone know what the lifespan is like when compared to an impermeable blockwork driveway?

Due to their porosity, do they suffer from spalling or cracking during a frost? Are they more slippery than impermeable blocks during a frost?

Is it possible to get ones that have square edges, or do they all have the zig-zag/corrugated edges?

Any other advantages or disadvantages?

My understanding of these blocks is that the water can get away through a larger gap between the blocks, rather than through the block itself. All it really means is the larger gaps will take a little longer to fill and block up - another government con! Regards JohnC.
