Hi,

The pilot in my kingfisher2 boiler keeps going off every 5 to 6 days. I keep on putting it but it is a pain. I would be very grateful if somebody can suggest something....I never had any problem with it for the past 3 years.

Perhaps you need a competent boiler enginer who will assess the problem and fit a new thermocouple or whatever other part is required?

Tony

Have you been there then John?

After three years or more the T/C could be well aging and just ready to drop out the magnetovalve when a gust of wind goes by!

Tony

From experience I have never know a thermal couple to work intermittently.

Once they have gone they stay gone.

I would suspect the pilot injector or low gas pressure

I have found many with a failing output voltage which are OK as long as everything else is perfect but allow the magnetovalve to drop out with slightly different wind conditions or a temporary lower gas supply pressure.

I also have had a few that give the symptons the OP is getting.

Is this an open flue boiler? If so does it have a temp sensor in the flue to detect POC being pushed back by a downdraught?

If the above applies then it could be this is in series with the thermocouple and shutting the pilot off.

Hi Guys,

Thx you for your suggestions. Well i dunno too much about boiler but i can say it seems to have a big pipe which goes to the roof(dunno about open flue)..The ex owner of the house told me that he had the problem before and change a wire which goes to the pilot and i checked in BNQ it is £5.97.
However I called in British Gas and they will charge me between £144-£196. They are due to come in on Thursday?do you think it is a good idea? thx in advance

I also want to add that the place the boiler is i dont think it is wind...what happen if the gas pressure is low..can that be rectify? One plumber told me that he needs to drain the system and clean the boiler(over the phone)..he is asking for £700..i cant afford those sum of money right now..please help

He doesn't need to drain the system at all, ring him back get his Corgi number and report him.

Get the pilot cleaned, possibly change pilot injector and T/couple, all pretty much small beer.

Check for any oxygen sensor as suggested or safety limit cut out in T/couple line.

Win lottery to pay for it if you are really considering using British Gas over reputable local Corgi engineer.

I really cannot recommend BG if it seems to be a simple pilot light problem with no expensive parts.

An independent is bound to be significantly cheaper.

We would charge £84 plus parts in our local area but even that was too much for someone today with an 18 month old boiler and tenants! So someone must be doing it cheaper! Dont know about the quality though!

I'm trying to get a corgi register. The first one i was recommended told me he needs to drain the system..I dunno anyone. I live in North London so if you can suggest anyone before Thursday so that i can cancel British Gas...that would be a great help..

thx in anticipation
