I have a 1930s house with wall with 10mm cavities, if I want to use PIR on the inside to insulate do I need to batten first or use a vapour barrier or can I put the PIR directly on to the wall?

Thanks in advance

10mm cavities? Are you sure?
If you're going to adhere insulation directly to the inside walls then you risk trapping damp inside the brickwork where previously it would evaporate and be ventilated away.
I have had great results by 'waterproofing' the outer wall. Not going to suggest any particular product, however a coating of Stormshield to bare brickwork has greatly alleviated any trapped damp problem by stopping damp penetrating the outer leaf. It can be applied directly to brickwork or to render and, like most other products of this kind, dries clear. On throwing a cupful of water at a treated wall you will see that the water simply runs off.
