I have removed some old tiles in the kitchen with a view to replacing them. Most of them came off OK but on the window sill it took nearly all the plaster off back to the render.

Can I get away with tiling to the render and putting slightly thicker adhesive to make up the difference in thickness between plastered and non plastered areas.

If yes, do I have to treat the render with a sizing liquid before I tile.

Or do I need to get it re-plastered.

Thanks

How big is the area affected,

I would replaster it an then tile on top , the plaster doesnt have to have a brilliant finish, so dont worry about the finish ,:)

yeap, plaster the effected area, it's 3 days for thick adhesive to go off, and you won't ever get it real flat.

Ok - Replaster

How long before I can tile after re-plastering?

Also never plastered before. Any easy products you would suggest to use?

Thanks

dab a strip of plasterboard onto the sill and tile straight away ;)

The plaster that has come away is only 2-3mm thick from the render

Thanks

make up the 2-3mm with the adhesive , seal the render fist to control the suction.
