Afternoon all

So in most of the rooms in our house, the wall/ceiling edges are all cracking in almost perfectly uniform lines (see pics). At first we thought it was maybe previous owners had masked them up for painting (maybe still the case) and then just painted over the tape.
When pulling it away, it’s pretty brittle and leaves an uneven-to-the-touch finish, as if it’s possibly the paint that is inch thick on top of plasterboard (assuming there’s no skim on the wall as a chunk of plaster pulled away on one section). Any ideas?

If indeed it’s just the paper lining of the board that has split, is it going to be possible to repair these areas using jointing compound n a sand down?

Thanks in advance.

That's the joining / scrim tape that's used on dot and dab walls.

They tend to not plaster dot and dab walls,

They put this tape on the joins, then use filler over the tape, sand it flat and paint straight over.

To rectify this, pull the tape off, fill, then run decorators caulk down the join in the corner.

Then paint as required.

I'm in the process of doing the same thing as we speak
