h9i all could do with some help with a tricky bathroom ceiling.

after having tried various things to rectify flaky paint on the bathroom ceiling Im at a loss with what to do that will permanently fix the ceiling other than re plastering.

1st ,tried scraping off flakes, raking out joints, filling and repainting, no good, paint flaked after a couple of weeks.

2nd tried scraping off flakes and filling etc then applying a sealer ( cant t remember what it was ) and painting. paint is still flaking although not as bad as originally.

any idea as to cause and best solutions.
many thanks

Hi Simon,

What sort of property is it? ie is it a newish build that has a plasterboard ceiling? or has it been plastered? Also need to eliminate distemper which is common in properties built circa 1950's and before. Also is the bathroom well ventilated and does the paint fully dry before any signs of flaking? and does the paint give the impression its adhering well or poorly?

Be good to have some more info, but you might wanna check out zinsser permawhite and perhaps guardz to see if you think they may help you in the mean time.

thanks for that shall look up the products,
Its in an old farmhouse but I'm pretty sure the ceiling is plaster on plasterboard , there is no extractor fan in the room and the paint did seem to dry well before the peeling and flaking happened.

cheers simon
