Hi, I hope someone can help.
I have recently had an electric oven fitted and the electrician made a hole through the wall into the living room. I just need to know how to repair the hole as it has the cables from the oven in it as you can hopefully see from the pic. The wall is the honeycomb stuff.
I have posted this in plasterers forum and they advised to come here.
Thanks for any advice in advance.

It does not look good.

Is there a socket below this position?
What is under the tape?

I presume the cables going to the left go to the oven.
If so, is this a horizontal run?

Did you pay him? Did he leave any documentation for the works? Can you post a photo of the other side?

Hi, I'll try to explain as best as I can, but I'm no electrician or plasterer!
This hole is halfway up the wall in the living room. On the other side of the wall is the double oven. There was originally a light switch and a double socket on the wall where the oven is now so I'm assuming he came off the socket..(my old cooker was gas and in a different place). There Is an oven switch in the top of the oven housing unit. In the living room there is a double socket to the left at the usual height... Hope this helps.

Did pay him, but he was a friend of a friend so not much.. Can picture the side but can't take oven out so won't see anything.. He didn't give me a certificate because he can't do that!! But says he knows someone who can!

If there are joints under the tape then you must not plaster over them.

I would advise you find a proper electrician to inspect the work - for the sake of the 5.

Thank you for your advice. I can only assume there are joins under the tape, so I will get someone else in to inspect it... This guy is qualified and never told me not to plaster over it!!! If I was to plasterboard the whole wall would it be ok as it is or does it still need doing properly ..

Even if you did, the joints would still need doing properly first.

Wrapping in plastic tape does not constitute "properly"

No need to board the whole wall, a plasterer will be able to fix that but what's more important is the electrics.

Hi rjm.. There is acsess from the other side, if you can see in the pic,the silver thing at the back of the hole is the back of the oven.. On closer inspection these cables run from left to right but with a kink in them, I don't think they are anything to do with the oven I think they are from the new light switch to a new socket he put in further along in the kitchen. I maybe wrong!! Tomorrow I will cut the power and undo the tape.. And try to post a better pic..

It's difficult to make out exactly what you have by your picture.
But the exposed cables don't look too good my friend.
I think maybe the guy that has fitted your oven, whilst drilling/chasing/sinking through wall has snagged some existing cables, then botched them up.
If guy cannot do the work competently and provide certificates he is no friend of anyones!
