Plastering / Sealing a garage ceiling

how would you insulate and plaster a garage ceiling with a habital room above?

i am concerned about smells and fumes along with the cold zone the garage will become

as much rockwool as possible, or celotex / kingspan (others available) and then double board with staggared joins, with a nice two coat skim over.
 
regs may well stipulate you need to use red boards for this, double skin of standard may be acceptable too but twice as much work.

regarding insulation, you get no better than PIR type (celotex type) stuff, screw it up there and use appropriate length screws to tack your red fireline boards up, and skim!

And treat yourself to plenty of insulation. I ended up using 170mm rockwool between the joists, then 50mm celotex cut around the pipework, then 70mm celotex over the top.
The room above was still a little chilly over the really cold spell, but otherwise OK
