Hi All

Is it possible to buy sheets of plastic (?) veneer e.g. in gloss white, red, black, etc. to make kitchen doors out of mdf and veneering them in the same sorts of colours you get from kitchen manufacturers (as opposed to using the wood veneered mdf).

Altenatively, I have seen some hand-made kitchens made out of wood (often oak) which has been painted. How would you go about getting a smooth and even professional finish when painting them (e.g. types of primer, paint, sanding after every coat, grit on sandpaper, etc.). Can you finish mdf in the same way and would it look the same?

Thank you so much ... i'm kinda hoping that all of the above aren't solely "factory finishes"! :)

You could cover the edges with a gloss laminate (formica)

If you want a high gloss finish to the timber then spraying is the only real option and even then needs to be done by a pro sprayer.

Best high gloss is Parapan which is solid 18mm acrylic, you can polish any makrs out of it

Jason thanks for your reply.

Would any sanding or buffing still be needed when spraying? Also, would any particular spray gun help (e.g. does a more expensive one give a better finish than a £50 Earlex one) and what type of paint and primer should we use? Also, would wood give a better finish than mdf? Would we need a "tent" to ensure as little dust as possible too?

From Parapan's website it appears that they only make to measure for designers (end users are advised to refer to shops where designers are using their products). Have you ever ordered from them directly and if so, do you have any indicative prices for std 600, 500, 400 mm doors?

Thanks again!
