I have a boiler (1985) Ideal wlx rs 30,40. It worked up until recently when I had a radiator leaking. The system was drained, and the leak repaired, but since then nothing will get hot. The boiler fires up, and the pump is working(and gets hot) but the pipes surrounding the pump stay cold? The rads dont even get warm and the hot water doesnt get hot although its making all the right noises. Iv been let down by the plumber who was going to come to my rescue. Can anyone please give me some advice.Thank you Sarah (freezing) Wales

In more rural areas all tradesmen operate in a situation where they trade on their reputation.

I find it very hard to immagine he has not tried to help you.

Are you sure you did not shout at him or do anything likely to cause him to notcome back ( including not paying him? ).

Depending on pump model, you should be able to bleed some air out from around it by using the large central screw in the middle. Make sure heating/hot water off and undo screw slowly to let air out. When water starts to come out, resecure screw. Turn on heating/hot water and see if that makes a difference.

Why do you say it is working?

this happens when there is no water passing through the pump.

It might be jammed or it might have an airlock

Undo the screw in the middle. No more than a drop or two of water should come out as it is sealed. Look to see if the spindle inside is turning. If not, put a screwdriver in the slot in the end of the spindle and see if it will turn.

When you bleed the radoators, does air come out, or water, or nothing? Especially the highest rad in the house.

Do you know where the drain cock is, and how to open it?
