Hello,
Just placed an order for Woodwarm 12 with split saddle and roof boilers. Hot water from stove will gravity feed a 210l thermal store positioned almost directly above. There will be a pumped circuit for the radiators, heat sink rad in the bathroom. Thats the easy bit. My understanding of plumbing is patchy so would appreciate a double check that what the plumber says makes sense:

there are no pipe/flue stats included in this system. The plumber says thats fine, due to the gravity feed and the fact a store is being used.
Stove has no thermostat to control airflow (we could order one if this is sensible?) Woodwarm say there is no real need for one once you get to know how the stove works.

Is this right? Whats your view?

Woodwarm 12 isn't listed on the Heatas approved guide and shouldn't be installed. See Hetas site. There's usually an thermostatic air damper fitted on approved boilers.

Ah very funny folks. The stove is absolutely the right beast - correct output to room and to water for our needs. My query is on how best to set the whole thing up for ease of use.
Anyone got anything useful to add ;)

I am left wondering why your plumber is unable to answer your queries. He sounds a bit of a nupty.

In my case I would always get a thermostatically controlled stove because I like technical solutions.

The manufacturer probably means that if you are retired and about most of the time then you can set the stove as required to deliver what heat you need. In that case they are probably right.

Since you have ordered a saddle and a hoof perhaps they are for your cowboy plumber?

Yup, the stove you have ordered is not Hetas approved and should not be fitted. Not adding, I know, but reiterating Onetap's very important and useful point. There are other stoves that are approved that will give you the same or very similar outputs.

Could I suggest that Goose provides a web link showing where that stove IS listed rather than just making the statement otherwise you will both just go on disagreeing without providing any evidence which the rest of us can see.

Humble pie - the 6kW is listed, but not the 12kW. Woodwarm have only had the 6kW "properly" efficency tested (anecdotally, everyone we have spoken to who owns one really rates how efficient they seem).
However, all their stove meet the relevant BS ENs. Given that we are using a HETAS approved installer, I dont think there should be a problem. However, please pipe up if I am wrong!

I've just installed one in my home.
Hetas don't recognise add in boilers so don't approve them from what I've read.
But it will be fine. Just pipe it as per MI's. In your case a two pipe arrangement will work fine.
The gravity circuit should be self regulating so no cold glugs returned to the boiler to reduce efficiency.

I've a four pipe layout and discovered a flaw in the traditional Hi-Lo stat control arrangement when I read the instructions and with my own input (I'm a car/lorry mechanic) and help from a solid fuel specialist found a solution.
The SFA confirmed my findings!
Be wary of plumbers and so called engineers as a lot of them will fob you off with a load of gibberish.
Just as this thread has demonstrated!

Well, that is a rare internet event.

You should have Building Control approval for any heat producing appliance. I'm not sure whether the lack of Hetas approval for the stove would prevent this.

The Hetas installer would be self-certificating. I'd suggest you contact Hetas. The paperwork may not be of immediate concern to you, but any future buyer's solicitor would want to see the documents.
