Hi,

Sorry I know it is a noob question.

We have this awful loud water dripping noise commit out from the wall. I found it to be coming from that pipe but I don't know what it is. I am thinking it is some in wall gutter as dripping can be heard mainly when it is raining.

I was able to unscrew the lid but this grey cap I cannot remove. It sound like the dripping noise cams just from behind that cap.

Is it safe to remove and how to do it ?

Thanks !

It will be the rainwater downpipe... from guttering down - is it hidden in a wall that use to be an exterior wall before extension?

You've removed the screwed cap yourself I presume, the grey plug should just pull out with a little persuasion. If it dripping during times of rainfall then I would assume it's a rainwater downpipe, draining a flat roofed area possibly? Bear in mind if you remove that plug and the pipe is full of water you're going to get wet!

Thanks unclebob1

No there is no toilet directly above. It appears to be going directly to the roof that we have in our apartment block. Just noticed there are no external gutters and the roof is quite flat but I have no access to it.

I have pushed a bit of the yellow insulation to the side and made another photo. Could it be that the droplets are hitting that bend hence the noise?

What would be the best way to insulate it or reduce that noise? More yellow stuff?

Any suggestions on how to remove the grey cap ?

Thanks

Cheers Hugh,

I was thinking "getting wet" under consideration. Seems that my persuasion is not enough though. It is coming out few millimeters but then it is refuses to move.

We have a flat roof so it probably is rainwater downpipe.

What would be the best way to reduce/remove this noise?

Plug will probably take some wriggling to remove, although I fail to see what removing it would achieve for you. Noise is likely the water dropping and spattering off the bottom side of the bend. The insulation is also good for acoustics, as previous poster has said, pack plenty in the void, whilst it may not eliminate the noise it should deaden it somewhat.
