As some of you guys here are very knowledgeable I'm going to ask about HW, and what I need for my basement here.

I have been told pressurized HW cylinder mains fed is an option here as it will feed only the basement. The rest of the house is from a combi.

So what do I buy and how easy is it to fit?

I will have someone fit the spur for it, but besides that I was going to fit the flow and return pipes (HEP) myself.

Some comments and advice welcome and where I can buy a good value cylinder etc? I have a few friends that may be able to get me trade discounts

Buck is suggesting not bothering with a water tank at all. Having an electric shower and two small stored water electric water heaters. This kind of thing:

Basically a small unvented tank fed by the mains with an electric element in. Stored hot water, not instant, so you get a decent flow not a dribble. And can be DIY installed. Unvented cylinders have to be installed by someone with the right certification.

Not a bad suggestion, though I wouldn't do it I was living there as I don't like electric showers if I can avoid them :-)

Well, with that small a space, electric heating is a more realistic option. It's only going to require a few Kilowatts to heat. Is there a boiler in there yet?

If you want a cylinder then how generous do you want to be. The smallest unvented cylinder you can find (probably about 80 -90 L) will probably do. Depends on what sort of shower, there is. a 10L/min shower would give you about 10mins of shower time from an 80L tank

Can you talk me through that Dan?

I'll explain, the basement may be sub let, which is why I wasn't considering having the basement heating on the combi

Would still consider running the heating and hot water off the combi.

3 zone valves (cylinder, main house heating and basement heating) one single channel timer for hot water and 2 cm907 programmable room stats.

Then a small 90 or 120 litre unvented cylinder for the basement.

Include gas and electric in the rent (you'll probably have to include council tax anyway) and charge accordingly.

You have to be G3 qualified to install unvented cylinders.

Thanks Dan.

Potentially silly question, if I read you correctly, ALL space and hot water from the combi? What is the cylinder then for?

Hot water cylinder is for standalone hot water (as it is being sub let).

Boiler heats it like a traditional boiler whilst still doing upstairs as it is now.

Ah. Can you recommend a good one? It may be cheaper for me to buy and have fitted than a supply and fit price, from experience.

Secretly happy its work I can sub out as its a legal requirement
