We have a new consumer unit which contains an RCD protecting the sockets (long story, http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14756).

Simple question: Previously I always used plug in RCD adapters when using power tools or lawnmower, etc. Now that the sockets are already RCD protected at the CU, is there any point in still using a separate RCD adapter for such equipment ?

no, or probably not. If you have two RCD then it is often unclear which will trip first (or both). Still keep a supply of plug fuses for when you cut the hedgetrimmer cable, because RCD only trap earth faults.
