The small one.
thanks dan ! just to let you know i have opened the rads and 4 of them let a fair bit of air out. just going to change the pump and then have a go at firing it up ........ fingers crossed !
The small one.
Lee, you've replaced the parts and unfortunately the bit you are struggling with is normally gained from experience.
I would cut your losses and call a plumber in, it won't be as expensive if you're certain no other parts need replacing. Otherwise you might drop your laptop in the f+e tank, making this all very costly!
Turn on a couple of rads. Turn the pump around.
Drain the tank so that it has a couple of inches of water above the outlet (adjust the valve to suit).
Refire the boiler.
Don't start fiddling with thermocouples of the insides of the boiler.
See how that works once you have all the air out.
Make doubly doubly sure you have opened the pump service valves too.
Had an underling scratching his 'arris for over an hour wondering why the boiler wasn't working on a job. Basics, Basics, Basics!
As was mentioned before (I think). Where the small pipe leaving the header tank goes down and joins the main system; you will find a blockage.
Bail out the small tank. Stuff a bung in the outlet. Trace that tee connection and replace it.
THERE WILL BE MANKY WATER.

I have taken all the water out the small tank and taken a pic of the pipework just to make sure we are talking about the same thing lol. and are there any tips you can give with removing the t junction and replacing it. i can weld so i cant see any trouble with the soldering and i have done a wee bit before. i will upload the pic in a sec.
all the best
lee
thank you ! the small pipe on the left is the one that comes from the bottom of the small tank. the larger one to the right is the pipe that hangs over the small tank. hope that makes sense dan ?
cheers
lee

Drain down, undo pump valve nut.
Cut the other 3 pieces of pipe.
15mm coupling
22mm coupling x2
22mm Tee x2
22 - 15mm reducer
Enough pipe.
Away you go.
Bet if you put a magnet on that 22-22-15mm tee it will attract nicely.
Mind that junction box though.
LeeC will be on in a minute to say I fitted it.
Hey 'thebeast' , you wouldn't be the guy with the MK10 jag (known as 'the beast') from luton who is also called Lee? , strange coincidence if it isn't.
