Is the pension received from the council a good pension? Also at the council do you pay so much a month of your wage union fees? I'm 35 years old and have a job offer for them as a plumber. It's a bit less money then what I'm on I'm just trying to weigh up my options. That's for any input

As I understand it. Don't take as fact.
You may pay around 6% of your total salary and council will put 12%. So if you pay £100 they add £200. This should be thought of as £2400 a year on top of your salary.
Flexible working
Regularly hours
Paid holidays ect.
Life insurance.
Pension
May have a shower at work? Seems some companies have this option. Might get in the customer shower on job one day. Ha.
No worrying about economy and finding regular work plus all the others problems in running a business.
Whatever you decide hope it works out. Lots of great Jobs working for a company Vs self employment.

If you have a job offer can you not ask? It is different for different councils.
Thanks it's on a bathroom and kitchen scheme I currently work on new builds and gas safe. The offer is 4k a year less then I'm on now. But possibly more perks

Even though your on K an B s You maybe also expected to be on the call out rota at night and weekends , check this with them .
Full pay whilst on the sick is usually 1 or 2 months initially then drops to half pay . Doesn't usually rise to full pay 6 months half pay 6 months till after 5 years service.
If they have a gas side you may have opportunity to transfer which is usually a higher rate

Thanks it's 27.5 holidays to start with and 32.5 after 5 years. I have a conditional offer.
Do you work for your local council?
More likely that council will match your pension payment up to 6% of your salary but your input will earn tax relief from the government which at standard rates mean for every £100 you put in they will add £20 free, money for nothing!
Nope they will put in around 12 % sometimes more depending on how the fund is progressing to meet its obligations
Is it a good career route I'm 35. I won't be using my gas which is a shame. Would be kitchens and bathrooms in tenenented houses. Would of preferred doing repairs. But no vacancies on that side. Sort of bathroom fitters will be harder work.

I had a look on the salary range it would be employee pays 6.5% employer doubles it
And your pension would be 1 /60 of your final salary for each year worked up to a maximum of 40/60?
Nope council pensions are now 1/49 so even better
