Polymarble basins

I'm looking at bathroom vanity units in a modern style and they mostly seem to come with polymarble basins.
What's the general vedict on these ? A poor substitute for ceramic or a genuine modern alternative ?

They're softer, same as the ceramic/stone resin basins, so they dull down quicker. Mum has had hers for maybe 3 years and it's starting to dull now. Doesn't handle fine scratches well and scuff like acrylic baths/shower tray's do.
