I have a pop up waste plug in my bath, with the adjusting knob higher up on the side of the bath. But my son stood on the pop up plug and I couldn't get it to pop back up again. Ended up having to drill it out!!

If I put the plug back in then it drops to the 'down/closed' position. How can I adjust it so that the new insert will pop up and down again? Are there any fixings I can adjust underneath the bath, or on the adjusting knob?

As a rule the plug has an adjustable screw underneath, but the lever that operates it might be damaged too, in which case the whole unit will need changing. :(
