Afternoon folks,

I'm hoping to pick the knowledge of our boiler experts so please bare with me,
The boiler in question is a Worcester Bosch 240 Combi Boiler, (fairly old 15 years ish or so).

Had it serviced 2 months ago and the guy said it was in good nick for its age.

Been in my new house for approx 4 month now, and when ever we have a shower using (Mixer tap, pull out to the left for hot, to the right for cold etc) we would have it fully to the left and it was hot as you would expect but not boiling. Move on 2 months and I break the shower head accidentally, got a new bigger one and turn on the shower as normal fully to the left however this time its not as hot, so i have to push the tap slightly in to make it hotter.

Have been doing that ever since up until 2 days ago, where now we go fully left, and for some reason it keeps getting hotter and hotter, so I’m having to bring it back to the right (to add more cold), it will level out temp wise however after 10 mins in the shower it will suddenly go cold, boiler has tripped out, pilot out etc which i assume its tripping on over temp.

Is this normal....that the outside case of the boiler is hot to touch, at one area on the front cover of the boiler (Roughly in the same place as the pilot glass window), you could touch for 2-3 secs before its too hot to touch???. This was once it had tripped and im starker’s naked trying to light the pilot again which took 50 attempts to do.

Anyone think my boiler is on its way out and it may be a good time to get boiler cover with my Scottish energy provider?? (live in pompey).

Cheers in advance folks.. Apologies for the long winded post.

Sound like it's over heating if you have to relight it. (Thermostat)

You'd need to see if it overheats when running a normal tap at a reasonable rate similar to a shower.

Does it ony do it when the shower is running?, what about other taps or when your heating the radiators?.

all i know is so far, the water coming out the shower and taps are much hotter than normal that we have been used to for the last 4 months.

The incoming cold water will be getting less cold this time of year.
