Potterton 24 not heating hot water

I have a Potterton 24 boiler that is not heating water.

The microswitch assembly is working correctly as something whirs into life when the hot water tap is opened. However the burner light doesn't come on and neither does the Flame Failure light. Any ideas?

Thanks for replying. I've just checked the heating and exactly the same thing happens as for the hot water.

The other half mentioned a bit of a clattering noise the other day - that might have been when the boiler stopped working.

Probably a problem with the pump proving switch/diagphram.

Pressure was low when it stopped working.

I've now allowed water around the loop and it's 0.75 bar when idle and 1.25 bar when "heating".

generically it should be between 1 - 1.5 bar but check the M.I.'s

Thanks for replying. I've set the pressure as per the instructions so I don't think its that.

I came back to it this evening an it sounded like the fan was constantly running when it should have been idle. I turned the switch to the off position and it continued to run until I flicked off the power where it plugs in at the wall? Does this sound like a failed PCB?

Thanks for all your help. To clarify, it's a Potterton 24 Performa - probably quite old.

Perhaps about 8-10 years old.

There may be a manually resettable overheat stat on the flow pipe towards the back on the lower left hand side.

If thats the case use an insulated tool such as a chopstick to push in the button in between the terminals and it should fire up again.

Thanks to all those who took the time to reply.

In the hope that it will help someone searching here in future - there was a temperature sensor in one of the pipes to the left of the boiler. This had worked loose and was no longer giving the correct reading. Once the sensor was reseated all problems were solved.
