can anyone help! having problems with heating, no problems with hot water, but boiler not firing up when switching heating on

dont think its the timer because it still shows time and displays programmes, thermostat clicks when turned on as usual!
spoke to a potterton engineer, reckoned its an electrical fault, can come and look at it at a charge of £300! just to look at it, not to fix!
If you were close to me then I would come and diagnose the fault for £84 and expect to fix it either within that price or for no more than £20 more!
Some people seem to have no idea of what things should cost. One we heard of spent £600 on a repair. That price would have bought a new boiler!

IF you feel competent on electrics open boiler up and remove cover plate from back of front panel . on left as you look at it there is 5 wires LNE from spur .
and two other wires to roomstat etc ,remove those 2 and put a link in if boiler now fires on CH it confirms external fault.
obviously turning power off before you do this.
