Hello - does anyone know where I can get a manual for the Potterton Puma 80e? Or even better, can some kind soul email me a pdf if you have it?

In summary, the fault is that the boiler keeps cutting out after a few minutes running the CH. Also, when the hot water takes priority - the CH won't fire up again. All this is intermittent and is likely to be a faulty sensor (been through various diagnostic steps). Therefore, I could really do with access to the actual manual so I can check out parts etc...

This is my first post so be gentle fellas

Many thanks.

Then you can work out what the fault really is!

Read up on the forum about pumas and their diverter valves.

Thanks for that - this looks like a minefield! The symptoms are now that the boiler fires up fine for CH whenever it's supposed to (with hot rads), however as soon as I turn the hot water on (e.g. shower) the system loses pressure and the low system pressure light comes on. The CH will only fire up again when I re-pressurise the central heating system (by 1 bar or so).

I've skimmed various threads on here which refer to diverter valves, pcbs etc... so I guess it's a case of trying to determine (somehow) why it's losing pressure each time the HW in turned on for more than 5/10mins. NB: The system does not lose pressure then the CH is on, which could be a clue?

Your post is not self-consistent - at one point you say this:

...as soon as I turn the hot water on (e.g. shower) the system loses pressure
However, you then say this:

it's losing pressure each time the HW in turned on for more than 5/10mins
If the loss of pressure is immediate, then I can think of only one possible cause, which is that the the contents of the central heating circuit is bleeding into the DHW circuit via the DV. If this is the case, then simply replacing the DV would fix the problem.

But this would be odd, because the system pressure, at 1 bar, ought to be less than the mains pressure. Unless the running pressure of the mains becomes less than 1 bar....

Out of curiosity, what happens if you do the following:

1) Turn off the boiler.
2) Pressurise the system to 1 bar.
3) Disconnect the filling loop.
4) Open a hot tap (with the boiler still off).

:?:

Problem solved! (BTW - when I refered to the shower I also meant that as hot water, as well as the hot water taps).

After a few hours we found that the expansion vessel was full of water (entirely). So a new one is ordered and will be fitted soon.

Thanks for your help guys :D

Glad to hear you've diagnosed it Mc. Presumably this means that the pressure dropped even if you didn't open any hot taps (or valves)?

Yes it dropped a lot slower without the taps being on - but accelerated when more volume was passed. New part is about £68 ex vat so that's a relief (as the next step may have been looking for leaking pipes!)

Thanks again.
