I have a problem with the central heating not coming on when it should. The hot water is working fine, but when I switch on the central heating, it runs for about 2 minutes, then switches off.

If I keep the heating on for 1 min, then turn the thermostat down to 5, the heating switches off as it should. When I bring the thermostat up past 15 (room temp) to 20 the heating kicks back on, but it only runs for about 2 minutes afterwards then switches off again.

I also noticed one of the radiators wasn't heating up, I don't know if it didn't have enough time to heat up because heating was switching off? The rest of the radiators were getting hot.

Not sure if this is related either, yesterday I could smell something heating up, like dust burning off a radiator, or like something overheating (like an engine overheating)

The boiler is about 5 years old and nothing has been moved or changed, does anyone know what the fault could be?

Is it a Suprima HE and so condensing? Or was it installed as a non condensing and thus not compliant?

Regardless, its not a boiler issue as such but a system or pump issue.

However, the way you describe the situation it makes me think that you may be better getting a professional to sort it out for you.

Hi its a Suprima 40L, it was installed by the builders when the house was built around 5 years ago.

Boilers should have been condensing from April 2005 but it was a little later in Scotland. Perhaps yours was just within the local date.

However, the non condensing boilers ceased production perhaps 1999. Possibly yours really is a condensing model and has a plastic pipe coming out of the bottom.

You could check the pump as suggested in the FAQ on this site. If thats OK then the same with the motor valve(s).

But I still expect you may need a professional.
