Hi,when repainting exterior woodwork does anyone use a wood preserver on bare wood that has been exposed during prep work or just primer,I have always just used primer and was wondering if this was right, many thanks
I would often (but not always) use a wood preserver on timber that is exposed to the elements as it does tend to help it last a bit longer. The downside is that you need to let it soak in and dry for supposedly 3-4 days, which is why I sometimes didn't use it. I always found that it would still be a little greasy and gave it all a wipe down with a dry cloth just to remove any excess residue.
Most water/oil based paints can be applied on top of dry preservative.
