Hello,

I am currently preparing to lay a new mdpe service pipe (it will be inspected) seeing as I have gone to the trouble of digging the trench I wanted to optimise water flow/ reduce pressure drop by using 32mm pipe.

I am having an external stop cock which will be within 1.5m of the meter. If that is fitted with a 25mm stop cock (cheap chamber available) and my piping is 32mm and it is connected with adapters, I presume I will be reducing my flow rate & overall pressure by doing the same.
However by how much will I be reducing them? To the same degree as just fitting a 25mm pipe to start?

I've never been able to get my head around fluid mechanics.. I hope somebody can help.

thanks

No!

The flow rate depends on the total resistance.

Think of it like electric cables. Thick cables give little resistance. Same with big pipes.

So use 32 mm and minimise any smaller pipe sizes.

Make sure any valves are the full flow types.
