Printer scanner giving out distorted lines

Basically this is a photo of what I get.

I fear it may be an allignment issue as I thumped it a few months ago because of a printer problem. I've cleaned the screen so it's not that. Any ideas ?

It's an HP Photsmart C5180. There is not a problem with the printing, only the scanner.

Sorry can't help but I know just what you mean about thumping printers maybe this will at least cheer you up.

It's hard to tell anything from the image, but try cleaning & lightly lubricating the rails that the optics run on. Also check for dirt in the belt & drive sprocket teeth.
