Hey, I am installing a new shower tray. However am having problems with the waste. The thread that goes through the tray and screws to the trap below is not long enough to start threading with both washers on ( top and bottom) niether will it start threading with just one of the washers on. It will only start threading to the trap with no washers on beacuse off the depth off the tray. Would silicone both sides make a leak free joint. Or do the sel traps for shower trays that have more thread on. Has anyone else had this problem.

You generally get two threaded sections one short one long (you could ask your supplier to see if they have the longer one), Is your waste hole 1,1/2 or much bigger, The 1,1/2 traps are widely available and the larger ones can be purchased as a independent fitting from a plumbers merchant. I wouldn't use silicone alone as it can over time loose its sealing properties also the rubber washers allow the trap to be tightened fully as they have a little give. It is very hard to nip two hard surfaces together

Is just one threaded section that is chrome that threads on to the trap below. It is a 1,1/2 hole. Do they sell ones with a longer threaded section to over-come this problem?

The chrome tail that goes through to screw on to the plastic trap below is 1.1/4 inch. Do they sell longer ones for this problem?

try plumb centre just go in and ask what they have. If your pushed you might be able to use a non slotted waste grate from a belfast sink and fit a U bend to that they are about 4". But Try a McAlpine shower waste im sure they are quiet long
