Quarter turn taps

Hi everyone
I am having trouble with 1/4 turn taps but only on the hot taps.
The kitchen mixer tap makes a squeaking sound and is really stiff to turn, it squeaks less and is easier to turn when water is being drawn off elsewhere, because of lowered pressure I suspect.
The bathroom hot tap is only 2 years old and has the same symptom.
Is this common with ceramic taps? They were not cheapo's either.
Any ideas of what could have caused it and how to cure it?

Do you have particularly high mains water pressure?

Does your pipework suffer from water hammer?
